The Leaf 🌿🍀🌿 Class 9th

 

👉 Question (1) Where was the flat Sue and Johnsy shared ? 

वह फ्लैट कहाँ था जिसमें सू तथा जॉन्सी का साझा था ? 

✍️ Answer. The flat that Sue and Johnsy lived in was a small one. It was on the third storey of an old house.

👉 Question (2) When did Johnsy fell very seriously ill ? Describe her condition. 

जॉन्सी कब बहुत गंभीर बीमार पड़ी ? उसकी दशा का वर्णन कीजिए | 

✍️ Answer. Johnsy fell very seriously ill in November. She had pneumonia. She remained lying in bed listlessly, just looking out of the window. 

👉 Question (3) The doctor took Sue aside. What did he ask her, and what was her reply ?

डॉक्टर सू को एक तरफ ले गया | उसने उससे क्या पूछा, और उसका क्या उत्तर था ?

✍️ Answer. Taking Sue aside, the doctor asked her if anything was worrying Johnsy. In reply Sue said nothing was worrying her, and asked him why he asked.

👉 Question (4) According to the doctor, when will medicines not help Johnsy ?

डॉक्टर के अनुसार, दवाएं जॉन्सी की सहायता कब नहीं करेंगी ?

✍️ Answer. The doctor opined that Johnsy had made up her mind that she was not going to get well, and added that if she did not want to live, medicines would not help her. 

👉 Question (5) Why did Sue bring her drawing-board into Johnsy's room ? What else did she do ? 

सू अपना ड्राइंग-बोर्ड जॉन्सी के कमरे में क्यों लाई ? उसने और क्या किया ? 

✍️ Answer. Sue brought her drawing- board in Johnsy's room and started painting, for she wanted to be beside her and that Johnsy started taking interest in things around her. Besides it, Sue whistled while working to take her mind off her illness. 

👉 Question (6) What did Sue do when she heard Johnsy whisper something ? 

सू ने क्या किया जब उसने जॉन्सी को कुछ फुसफुसाते हुए सुना ? 

✍️ Answer. When Sue heard Johnsy whisper something she quickly rushed to her bed to know if something who wrong with her.

👉 Question (7) Why was Johnsy counting backwards ? 

जॉन्सी उल्टी गिनती क्यों गिन रही थी ? 

✍️ Answer. Johnsy was looking at the ivy creeper outside seeing them she was counting the remaining leaves backwards twelve, eleven, ten, nine and so on. 

👉 Question (8) Which season was it and what was its effects on the ivy creeper ?

वह कौन-सी ऋतु थी तथा इसका आइवी की बेल पर क्या प्रभाव पड़ा ? 

✍️ Answer. It was autumn and as a result the ivy creeper began to shed its leaves. 

👉 Question (9) What will, Johnsy said, happen to her when the last leaf falls ?

जॉन्सी ने कहा कि मेरा क्या होगा जब अंतिम पत्ती गिर जायेगी ?

✍️ Answer. Johnsy said that when The last leaf falls off the creeper, she would sleep forever, i.e. die.

👉 Question (10) Why can't Sue draw the curtain and why does she want to finish the painting ?

सू परदा क्यों नहीं खींच सकती थी तथा वह पेंटिंग को क्यों समाप्त करना चाहती थी ?

✍️ Answer. She can't draw the curtain, for she needs light as she is painting and she has to finish it get some money. 

   

👉 Question (11) Johnsy thinks she is going to die. How does she want to go away ?

जॉन्सी सोचती है कि मैं मरने जा रही हूँ | वह क्यों मरना चाहती है ?

✍️ Answer. She is going to die, and she wants to go away only after seeing the last leaf fall. She wants to die in peace like that last leaf. 

👉 Question (12) Who was Behrman ? Why did Sue go to him ?

बेहरमन कौन था ? सू उसके पास क्यों गई ? 

✍️ Answer. Behrman was a sixty-years old artists. He lived on the ground floor of the same building. Sue had to paint an old miner. She therefore, went to him to call him up to be her model.

👉 Question (13) Why did Sue and Behrman tiptoe into the room ?

सू तथा बेहरमन कमरे में दबे पांव क्यों गए ?

✍️ Answer. Johnsy had high temperature and was sleeping at that time. Sue and Behrman tiptoed into the room in order not to disturb her in her sleep.

👉 Question (14) What did Johnsy ask Sue to do when the former woke up next morning ? Why was the latter nervous ?

जॉन्सी ने सू से क्या करने को कहा पहली वाली (जॉन्सी) अगली सुबह उठी ? दूसरी वाली (सू) क्यों घबराई हुई थी ?

✍️ Answer. When Johnsy woke up next morning, she in a feeble voice asked Sue to draw back the curtain the latter, i.e. Sue, was nervous to do that because she feared that the last leaf might have fallen.

👉 Question (15) What did Sue say energetically when Johnsy said, "Then I'll die". 

जब जॉन्सी ने कहा "तब मैं मर जाऊंगी", तब सू ने उग्रतापूर्वक क्या कहा ? 

✍️ Answer. When Johnsy said, 'Then I'll die' 'Sue energetically said that she would not die, for she had to live for her friends and asked her what would happen to her (Sue) if she died. 

👉 Question (16) When in the evening, in spite of another storm, the leaf did not fall, what did Johnsy say to Sue ?

जब शाम को, दूसरी आंधी के बावजूद, पत्ती नहीं गिरी, तब जॉन्सी सू से क्या कहा ? 

✍️ Answer. Johnsy told Sue that she (Johnsy) had been a bad girl, and she had not cooperated Sue though Sue had looked after her so lovingly. She said that the leaf had taught her that to want to die is a sin.

👉 Question (17) How did Sue react after this ? 

इसके बाद सू ने किस प्रकार प्रतिक्रिया दी ? 

✍️ Answer. After this Sue hugged Johnsy, and gave her lots of soup to drink and a mirror so that she might comb her hair.

👉 Question (18) How did Mr. Behrman die ? Who gave this news to Johnsy ?

मि. बेहरमन कैसे मरा ? जॉन्सी को यह समाचार किसने दिया ? 

✍️ Answer. Mr. Behrman died of Pneumonia. He had been ill for two days. Sue gave this news to Johnsy.

👉 Question (19) What things-which belonged to Mr. Behrman-did they find ?

उन्हें कौन-सी चीजें-जो श्री बेहरमन की थीं-मिली ? 

✍️ Answer. They found a ladder, a lantern, some brushes and paints. All those things belonged to Mr. Behrman.

👉 Question (20) Why did the last leaf not fall ? 

अंतिम पत्ती क्यों नहीं गिरी ? 

✍️ Answer. The last leaf, though looked quite green and healthy and seemed to be clinging to the creeper, was not a real one. It was painted by Mr. Behrman. It did not, for this reason, fall.
